One of our biggest concerns is that people who use Kindo might have family trees that break in some way, or don't function as expected. This isn't cool, so we'd like to do as much as possible to make sure that it works as expected for everyone!
The first step is to figure out what the known problems are, so that we can try and replicate them, and then fix them...
So, if your family tree is breaking, then please let us know, and if possible send us a screengrab so that we can see what you're seeing.
I have a mother and also a step mother. Although the relationships between the people are correct, initially the tree branched off with my step mother in the middle, which makes it look like i am her child. After i updated the "relationship ended" flag for my mum (which wasn't obvious to start with), and refreshed a few times, my stepmother moved to the end of the tree, further away from my father, and with a line passing through my mum! I doubt she would like that too much!
Seems its already been mentioned but the stepmother/stepdad and related son daughter relationships are quite difficult to set up, but i'd imagine are fairly common. Couldnt quite figure out how to make that work within my tree.
Correction on the Zoom bug, unless it has just been fixed. Didn't realise you had to press-n-hold!! Could do with being more obvious.
However:
Centering on a person doesn't work properly once you've zoomed in and out a bit. The centre registration point appears to move somewhere weird after you've zoomed out, so when you click on a person, the tree zips off way to the left of the person you clicked on. The further away from this point you click on a user the more vertical offset the distance moved away from the desired location is.
Minor graphical things on zoom: - font is not smoothed - picture of my dad doesn't quite fit in box outline - tool tip for online status is behind box for person
scrolling off the edge of the tree gives a blank screen - I got lost and couldn't get back to it except by scrolling in different directions until I found it. Maybe limit the scrolling to the range of the tree.
On the profile section, I was pressing the save button repeatedly and it seemed like it didn't have any effect. Later I saw the "Saving profile" message at the top of the screen. I was looking for feedback near the save button itself.
centering bug - already mentioned
uploading a jpg photo in firefox caused the browser to crash after clicking "Upload". Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5) Gecko/0000000000 Fedora/2.0.0.5-1.fc7 Firefox/2.0.0.5 I am using Adobe flash-plugin-9.0.48.0-a on Fedora 7.
otherwise it works well - I entered about 10 people without any problems.
Hi guys, great to see you're out of beta now! it's really come on a lot since I last looked. The navigation is a lot better now and most of the issues regarding the notion of multiple partners have been sorted now. Got a couple of things to raise though!!!....
1) When you're in a subtree tab, when you close the tab it doesn't seem to switch views to the previous one. The view stays from the 'closed' tab.
2) The side panel is still mighty slow at loading in "edit profile" view. Not sure why, but the images and _utm.gif seem to load pretty slow. also it looks like it is loading some kind of template into it (stuff like {tr(#photos)} is displayed in the response using firebug.) This is adding 5s (apparently).
3) Think there needs to be more information displayed in the actual people's boxes on the tree. To have to click 'edit profile' or 'View Full Profile' to see the person's info seems to be too many clicks - maybe a hover state on the tree boxes would facilitate this without cluttering the tree?
4) View full profile link opens in same window, but there's not really much more here to see. Maybe that's coming later?
5) Photo uploader could do with progress meter (guessing the bar above the browse field is supposed to do something but it doesn't for me!), otherwise it feels a bit frozen while the photo goes up.
6) Multiple parents still give a couple of relationship problems (no shit!). Although it is much better than before, it is not possible (or not obvious) to indicate which parents spawned the siblings....it sort of works, but not quite! After adding my step mother my dad becomes the father of my step sister and brother, which he's not! Not sure if i would require to add my step-mother's ex-partner, then add the siblings through him before linking my dad to my step mum, but however it _might_ be done, it's not obvious how this relationship could be sorted out.
7) Some funny stuff going on with the url rewrite www.kindo.com/index.php/kindo seems odd, though i know it is possible to make it like this, suppose www.kindo.com/kindo might look nicer?? just getting picky now!!
Thats enough for now i think!!!
Like the little leaf motif to indicate the active tree. Like the facebook-style status in the profile view. Would like to know how that will be displayed to others! Logging of actions is, if not particularly useful to the average user, is nice to see the actions taking place for devleopers! The tree emblem in the background of the tree view is pleasant
oops, textarea box got frozen. more nice things to say...
the transitions between the different subtrees are smart as is the initial build where everything zooms out from the centre into position layout, colour scheme, buttons etc all look great, very navigable no noticeable css bugs on ff2.0.0.8)
ok, just sussed out how to sort out the parental relationships, though it wasn't too clear initially tree gets a bit dull after a while since all the boxes look the same. - maybe colour schemes for family groups?
enough already!!

Thanks for all the great feedback, you have made some great suggestions and we will be working to fix some of the problems you have experienced. I'm really glad that you are enjoying the site...watch this space for news about improvements & fixes.
@rklien We have added the ability to delete profiles from you tree now. However it is limited to profiles that have no dependencies ie don't rely on other profiles
hmmm, i see you have added delete capability to people with no dependencies, but i accidentally added someone at the very top. I guess i can change their name to a question mark for now.
thanks, this is cool... im going to send notifications to all my family and see how we grow.
@vendejp Cool - thanks for the feedback...I'm glad you like the site! We are currently trying to improve the delete functionality, but for the time being as you have said it's just for people without dependencies.
@Vince Thanks for sending me this screen shot. It seems pretty strange that you experienced this, because we have never had a report of this before. It could have something to do with the fact that your browser is in Chinese? I have logged this as a bug though and we will investigate this further though. Cheers
I keep getting a crash when trying to add a new node to my tree. I think it must be because it has gotten really complicated. Basically I have my grandmother (Arbutus) who has 4 children by her first husband, then my mother is one of 3 children by her second husband (my grandfather). My grandfather's family is partially in place, but I get a "parent error" when trying to add my grandmother's parents, and it just keeps spinning when I try to add a sister or a brother. She's in the middle of a large complicated tree, so I think it's a problem with recalculating where she should go.
Thanks for telling us about this problem. The good thing is that our code is "catching" the error, but there is obviously something else that is breaking - Thats if you can call it a good thing ;). This is the first time that a user has reported this problem, so we will have a look into it asap. I will let you know as soon as we we have corrected the bug.
G'day, I was going really well putting my tree together, there were ?46 profiles, I think. Then I tried to fix something and I broke my tree :( . Now I can't seem to retrieve all the information I entered. What I attempted to do was get my father's profile to stop appearing as if my mothers parents were his. I think this is covered in known issues, but I couldn't help my self from tinkering, sorry. Anyway, there seems to be two trees now, one which I can't access at all. Help, please ?
PS thank you, I am enjoying researching my family tree
G'day, Pardon my eagerness, I am really into this family tree building. So, I started again and have re-entered all 46 profiles and this time I concentrated on building the tree in a methodical fashion. The new tree looks gr8 and the profiles are meshing well. In short, IF the old tree exists somewhere on this site, perhaps you guys may wish to delete it. The best things to come out of my stuffing around are :
-follow the instructions given on building a tree, start with one's self, then do your parents, their parents and then your siblings
-go slow and think about things before you do them, I mean how your connecting people and in what way/order can make a difference I found
The thing is I have a traumatic brain injury and do get confused and flustered easily. In saying that the process involved here was not easy for me, especially when I rushed and didn't follow the guidelines given. Secondly, if I can do this anyone can, LOL. Finally, the reason I am so thankful for this site is to help me get my family tree organized before all the available information vanishes into the ether. Memory loss issues are a big thing with brain injuries. I have a bit of time on my hands as well to do this for the benefit of the younger generations in my family tree.
Thanks for the feedback! It sounds like you're really enjoying the site. Please send me an email on forum@kindo.com and I will get your original tree deleted. Good luck with building your tree and I hope your family start loving the app too!
hi! i have a problem. my dad's cousin seems like my mum's brother :( just like it when i add my mum's uncle's son he appears on the same line with my mum.
Yup - this is the problem that is listed on the known issues page: "On large family trees, lines connecting family members may overlap or members appear on the wrong side of the graph"
Thanks for the feedback though, we will try to sort this problem out
In my family tree I have deleted some connections and so some people aren't visible anymore in the tree. But it is impossible to delete them in anyway.
Can you please reset my family tree to a blank one ?
Something happened to my family three and I can't see my wifw and children under me. Besides, I've entered approx. 150 people and on my info box is shown as if I have only 9 members. On most of the boxes, instead of the names it is stated null. But on a null three are shown many members. I want to send you page but I don't know have to store or copy a screen to send with this e-mail. Help please....sos... regards.
HI! I've entered approx 80 people. And some people isn't in his righ place. Only i can see the tree well, when i click in one person and see only his own tree.
And i think that should be great if i could imprite the complete tree, it could be in parts... but i can't do it because I can't see the complete tree all toghether.
Sorry because of my little English, I'm from Argentina.
Over the last two days we have made quite a few changes to improve the performance of the application. There are however some final changes that we need to make before all the users trees are back to normal.
I do apologize for this, but we should have it fixed before the end of the week. Also, all of the people in your trees are still in the database and have not been lost, so don't worry about that.
Added a brother in law that was married twice. It didn't link the children of his first marriage to him even though he was linked to his ex-wife. then when I clicked on his ex-wife, I could add a father. I added the same name hoping it would figure out it was the same person, but it added another father next to them.
Also I can't delete people that have no dependencies, but had prior dependencies. Meaning I had a tree with a grandfather, father, and child. I deleted the child but I can't delete either of the parents, they have no dependencies but the system won't let me delete. It would also be nice if the system could traverse the tree (talk about a kickback to old school logarithms) and delete any relationships if that is what the user wanted to do, if not , associate those people to another person.
Our family tree has a hiccup in that the some people will jump across to indicate that they are part of the wrong family etc... then when you add more people they can auto correct, but someone else ends up on the wrong side.... I.E my dad doesnt show a line to his parents, but looks like he's one of my mum's cousins.
If you click on his profile though... that remains correct saying he is his parents child !
I would also love to see an export or printing option
Also I have experienced trouble with the pictures, I added my picture, but it didn't show anything, so I took another picture and the browser closed instantly. It managed to upload and render this time the picture, when I logged back in after that.

Hi! I discovered Kindo just a few days ago, and my family tree has grown to more than 160 people, still growing as people accept my invitations. A great way to find and keep in touch with relatives in other contries etc!
However, there is a problem with lines crossing when the tree is this large. In some of the family branches people get mixed up with relatives from another branch. Can we expect this problem to get solved soon?
Another feature that would be nice to have, is a message board or something like that, so that you can see who is on line etc. I also agree with previous comments about displaying somehow when someone is deceased, date of death, the problems showing marriages between cousins, and generally more space to write down information in the profiles. These features would be great!!

When I have logged on yesterday and today my tree doesn't show, I can go on profile and all the info is there, but when I go back to the tree it still isn't there.
I sent an invite to my cousin but when he clicked on it, everything on the page was huge and he couldn't do anything with it, is this a Kindo problem or is it his pc.
